The currently operating Generation II Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactors (AGR) in the nuclear power stations in the UK, mainly built in the 1960s and 1970s, are approaching their designed life. Besides the development of the new generation of reactors, the government is also seeking to extend the life of some AGRs.
