The aim of this study is twofold: primarily, to classify and analyse the artefacts found or (arguably) produced in Lakonia between c.950 and 650; secondarily, to see whether the results obtained for the material evidence can illuminate the obscurity in which the surviving literary sources shroud early Spartan history.
