Inflammation is a multifactorial response towards noxious stimuli, however appropriate regulation and resolution of inflammation is crucial for the prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis. The endocannabinoid (eCB) system is an endogenous immunomodulatory system which consists of a series of lipophilic ligands that signal via two G-protein-coupled receptors.
