This thesis is comprised of two projects conducted at Oxford University and the National Institute on Drug Abuse – Intramural Research Program. The first project focused on developing methodology using Hydrogen borrowing (HB) which has been shown to be a useful tool for the construction of poly-substituted cyclohexane and 1-acyl-cyclohexenes starting from an orthodisubstituted aryl methyl ketone and 1,5-pentanediols.
