Chromaffin granules, the catecholamine storage vesicles abundant in the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla, are immunologically identical to the adrenergic vesicles of the sympathetic nervous system. As a consequence of their common embryological origin, the chromaffin cell serves as a useful model system in which to investigate several aspects of nerve action.
