The main subjects of this thesis are the chemistry and structure of two triterpenes, methyl angolensate (1) and turraeanthin (2), which were isolated from species of the family Meliaceae. A review is included of other triterpenes isolated from this family and from the related plant families Rutaceae and Simaroubaceee.
