Inflation expectations & central bank communication

Abstract:

This thesis studies how households form and report inflation expectations, and how communication can be used as a policy tool to guide these macroeconomic expectations. I use a combination of big data, experiments, and theoretical modeling to address critical questions: Is central bank communication successfully reaching the public? What is the role of the messenger for this communication? And does it matter how macroeconomic expectations are elicited?
