An experimental study of spin interactions at very low temperatures

Abstract:

This thesis is divided into three parts. Part One contains a description of a method for measuring the magnetization entropy of a paramagnetic salt near 1°K, and a study of the low temperature thermal and magnetic properties of ferric methylammonium alum. Part Two contains an account of heat capacity measurements below 1°K made to examine the hyperfine coupling in ferromagnetic materials.
