C-type cytochromes are ubiquitous proteins with crucial functions in organisms, which include electron transfer and apoptotic signalling. In eukaryotic organisms, mitochondrial cytochrome c is located in the intermembrane space, and it is a component of the electron transport chain; it is responsible for transferring electrons from Complex III to Complex IV.
