Introduction: In recent years, the average age of first reproduction has risen significantly, the mean now standing at around 30 years in many countries. The adverse effects of maternal age on fertility and reproduction have been well documented. However, the influence of paternal age on fertility, reproduction and postnatal health is relatively poorly understood, and 50% of all male infertility cases are classed as idiopathic or unexplained infertility.
