- Abstract:
-

Turkey, despite concerns over a rising tide of Islamism, is still perceived of as a country that is constitutionally secular and who sees her future with the West and Europe. Pakistan, on the other hand, continues to fight Islamic fundamentalism at home, is still struggling to reach a consensus on exactly what sort of role religion should play within the state and is increasingly clubbed together in international circles with that quintessential struggling state, her northern neighbour, Afghanistan.
