Abstract:

The cantigas d'amor are a genre within medieval Galician-Portuguese lyric. It is numerically expressive and was seemingly considered the highest poetic form in its time. This thesis explains its rise and history, focusing on its manuscript tradition, its compilation history and its formal characteristics.
