The work presented in this thesis examined the cellular and molecular phenotypes associated with sympathetic over-activity in the initiation and progression of hypertension in the prehypertensive spontaneously hypertensive rat (preSHR) and spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), with validation of key molecular pathways in human stellate ganglia.
