Development and assessment of ultrasound-mediated vascularisation in engineered skin constructs

Abstract:

There is a clinical need for better skin graft solutions, particularly for the treatment of complex wounds. Engineered skin tissues offer a potential solution to this challenge but have yet to overcome issues posed by necrotic core formation and limited vascularisation. This thesis investigates the use of focused ultrasound (FUS) in engineered skin constructs as a mechanism to enhance mass transport and its potential to promote angiogenesis.
