Replication of FLOSS research as eResearch

Abstract:
We are working to introduce the ideas of eResearch to the multi-disciplinary research domain of Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS). As an example of the potential value of shared analysis workflows for supporting research collaboration, we are replicating several FLOSS papers using eResearch approaches. The replication involves the reconstruction of the analyses for several empirical studies. The effort has three purposes: providing example workflows for FLOSS research, determining the replicability of current research, and providing a platform for extending the original research. This paper describes research outcomes and lessons learned from translating published literature into eResearch workflows.
