Digital data sustainability: a one-year retrospective

Abstract:

Preserving research data for open access presents severe challenges. Projects end, funding runs out, technology ages and people move on. Databases or archives representing years of academic work can become inaccessible overnight. The Sustainable Digital Scholarship service was launched in 2021 to help overcome these challenges. This session discusses practical approaches to giving research projects digital sustainability. We will cover:

  • Preserving open access via archives, repositories and databases.
  • Options for storing digital research projects and their outputs, including the Oxford Research Archive, Digisafe, and the Sustainable Digital Scholarship platform.
  • How to build your project to ensure long-term open access, including writing a Data Management Plan that funders will love.
