Macroeconomic interactions between North and South

Abstract:
Seven papers, plus discussions, presented at a conference held in September 1987 at the University of Sussex Conference Centre at the Isle of Thorns and jointly organized by the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the International Economics Study Group, examine the subject of North-South macroeconomic interactions, and amplify and justify the emphasis on global, general-equilibrium analysis. Papers focus on an econometric investigation of North-South interdependence; a general-equilibrium framework for the study of strategic issues; commodities, debt, and North-South cooperation; the use of commodity contracts for the management of developing country commodity risks; an empirical study of disequilibrium in North-South trade; global savings, investment, and adjustment; and Brazil's growth prospects. Currie is at Queen Mary College, London, and the Centre for Economic Policy Research. Vines is at the University of Glasgow and the Centre for Economic Policy Research. Index.
