Dislocation modelling of stage I fatigue crack growth

Abstract:

A simulation of the dynamics of generation, motion and interaction of dislocations in the stress field ahead of a mode II crack under a cyclic loading is presented. The cyclic plastic displacement at the crack tip allows the growth rate to be determined. Crack growth rate curves show an inherent threshold DeltaK(th) below which no crack growth takes place.
