Computational modelling of constrained sintering in EB-PVD thermal barrier coatings

Abstract:

A micromechanical model is developed to simulate the evolution of microstructure during in-service sintering and eventual inter-columnar cracking in coatings made using electron beam vapour deposition (EB-PVD) route. The coating is idealized with a discrete distribution of axisymmetric asperities across interfaces between columnar grains.
