The Thulung myth of the bhume sites and some Indo-Tibetan comparisons
- Abstract:
- A myth recorded in 1970 among the Thulung Rai of East Nepal tells of the foundation of a series of shrines. It is compared with the origin myth of the Hindu Shakta pitha cult, and with a number of similar myths in and around the Himalayas. In all cases, sacred sites, often centering on sacred stones, are linked with the body parts of a mythic being.
