Apolipoprotein E genotype, islet amyloid deposition and severity of Type 2 diabetes.
Islet amyloid is found in 90% of patients with Type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes at post-mortem. More extensive amyloidosis is associated with decreased islet function and requirement for insulin therapy.
