Abstract:

Muscle disorders (myopathies) are rare in all age groups. They may be inherited or acquired. Inherited disorders presenting for the first time in middle age and later include myotonic dystrophy, oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy and mitochondrial disorders, particularly chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia.
