Developments towards superconducting on-chip Fourier transform spectrometers (SOFTS)
- Abstract:
- We need spectroscopic imaging at submillimetrewavelengths to answer fundamental questionsabout the origins of our universe, structure formation andgalaxy evolution. Often, there are steep trade-offs betweenthe number of detectors and their spectral resolving powerin completing such 3D surveys. Novel astrophotonics technologies, such as the Superconducting On-Chip FourierTransform Spectrometer (SOFTS), are underway to breakinstrumentation barriers and enable the packing of a focalplanearray with many high spectral resolution submillimeterdetectors. Here, we summarize recent advances inSOFTS development, focusing on potential spectroscopicresolution and packing density within a focal plane array.
