Nota esegetica ad Ar. Eccl. 7-11

Abstract:
Exegetic Note to Ar. Eccl. 7-11. In Praxagora's opening monologue in Ecclesiazusae the lamp is praised as the only trustowrthy companion in women's secret activities. It is customarily agreed upon that in lines 7-11 the merit of the lamp is helping women commit adultery. However, multiple reasons make this interpretation quite unlikely, and therefore this paper aims at providing a different exegesis, namely that the lamp is praised as it helps female autoeroticism.
