Why Do Jobless Rates Differ?

Abstract:: The Beveridge Curve plots the relationship between unemployment and job vacancies. Stephen Nickell, Luca Nunziata, Wolfgang Ochel and Glenda Quintini look at the evidence on unemployment and wages in all OECD countries from 1960 to the 1990s, and conclude that changes in labour market regimes explain most of the observed shifts.
