Measurement of the ๐œ‚๐‘(1๐‘†) production cross-section in ๐‘ ๐‘ collisions at ๐‘ โˆš=13 TeV

Abstract:
Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fbโˆ’1, collected by the LHCb experiment, the production of the ๐œ‚๐‘(1๐‘†) state in protonโ€“proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of ๐‘ โˆš=13 TeV is studied in the rapidity range 2.0<๐‘ฆ<4.5 and in the transverse momentum range 6.5<๐‘T<14.0GeV. The cross-section for prompt production of ๐œ‚๐‘(1๐‘†) mesons relative to that of the ๐ฝ/๐œ“ meson is measured using the ๐‘ ๐‘โŽฏโŽฏโŽฏ decay mode and is found to be ๐œŽ๐œ‚๐‘(1๐‘†)/๐œŽ๐ฝ/๐œ“=1.69ยฑ0.15ยฑ0.10ยฑ0.18. The quoted uncertainties are, in order, statistical, systematic and due to uncertainties on the branching fractions of the ๐ฝ/๐œ“โ†’๐‘๐‘โŽฏโŽฏโŽฏ and ๐œ‚๐‘โ†’๐‘๐‘โŽฏโŽฏโŽฏ decays. The prompt ๐œ‚๐‘(1๐‘†) production cross-section is determined to be ๐œŽ๐œ‚๐‘(1๐‘†)=1.26ยฑ0.11ยฑ0.08ยฑ0.14ฮผb, where the last uncertainty includes that on the ๐ฝ/๐œ“ meson cross-section. The ratio of the branching fractions of ๐‘-hadron decays to the ๐œ‚๐‘(1๐‘†) and ๐ฝ/๐œ“ states is measured to be ๎ˆฎ๐‘โ†’๐œ‚๐‘๐‘‹/๎ˆฎ๐‘โ†’๐ฝ/๐œ“๐‘‹=0.48ยฑ0.03ยฑ0.03ยฑ0.05, where the last uncertainty is due to those on the branching fractions of the ๐ฝ/๐œ“โ†’๐‘๐‘โŽฏโŽฏโŽฏ and ๐œ‚๐‘โ†’๐‘๐‘โŽฏโŽฏโŽฏ decays. The difference between the ๐ฝ/๐œ“ and ๐œ‚๐‘(1๐‘†) masses is also determined to be 113.0ยฑ0.7ยฑ0.1MeV, which is the most precise single measurement of this quantity to date.
