The first record of Achilidae (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha) in Miocene Dominican amber revealed by synchrotron X-ray tomography
- Abstract:
- The diversity of planthoppers in the Miocene Dominican amber is considerable but remains underestimated due to the large number of undescribed specimens. Here, we report the first occurrence of the family Achilidae in this amber and provide the first fossil record of the highly diverse tribe Plectoderini, with the description of Catonia pouilloni n. sp. The new species is described based on detailed microscopic observations and new X-ray microtomography data. It is diagnosed, and its affinities with other achilids are briefly discussed.
