Reuters Institute digital news report 2026
- Abstract:
- The fifteenth Digital News Report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford examines changing patterns of news consumption across 48 markets, based on a YouGov survey of almost 100,000 respondents. The report documents a significant milestone in the evolution of digital news. Social media and video networks have displaced news organisations’ own websites and apps and TV news as the most widely used way of accessing news. Growth is seen in the use of AI chatbots, online news video, and news-focused creators have become a more prominent part of the information environment. Trust in news has fallen to its lowest level since measurement began in 2015, concerns about misinformation have increased, and interest in news continues to decline in many countries. Despite these shifts, audiences continue to value impartial news, support many established news brands, and express positive attitudes towards the social impact of public service news.
