Working paper
Kazakhstan's gas : export markets and export routes
- Abstract:
- The geographic proximity of Kazakhstan to Russia, China, Central Asia and the Caspian region makes this oil and gas-producing country an important player in energy exports from the CIS. The method with which Kazakhstan – the second largest oil and gas producer in the former USSR after Russia – chooses to develop its gas resources and relevant export infrastructure will have significant implications for gas exports from other energy-producing countries of the former Soviet Union, as well as for the existing European and Chinese plans for diversification of natural gas supplies.
