Expansionnisme foncier et violence entre Arabes Choa: Une autre modalité de la conflictualité dans le Logone-et-Chari (1953-2012)
- Abstract:
-
From 1953, intra-ethnic violence spreads between the qabbayil (Shuwa Arab tribes), and between the khashm buyut (clans and fractions) in the Logone-and-Chari region of Cameroon. That same year also marked the breakup of the Sultanate of Goulfey, there by resulting to the fragmentation of Shuwa Arab authority, then land extension policies. In this study one discovers that during the process of land extension in the Lake Chad basin, there is intra-ethnic violence. This paper therefore examines the use of force between Shuwa Arabs from Logone-and-Chari when the need of new land supply targets the closest brother’s lands. Recurring tensions, crises and threats are carried out by the qabbayil on the kalankiat (tribal land boundaries) and illegal villages. Between Shuwa Arab clans and fractions, violence refers to bloody confrontations and personal revenge.
