Characterisation of edge conditions in general incomplete contacts
- Abstract:
- We use edge asymptotes to describe the stresses very close to the edge of incomplete contacts under cyclic loading, but with constant normal force. The solution allows us to match identically the conditions very close to the contact edge, where cracks initiate, of significantly different problems and correlate, for example, fatigue lives of laboratory experiments with complex prototypical geometries.
