Gulide, Guile, and Gulinus: an Irish type for a twelfth-century Latin story
- Abstract:
- Peter of Cornwall’s Liber Reuelationum includes a unique story presented as a second account of St Patrick’s Purgatory. Peter, collecting visions of the otherworld, in London in 1200, has copied the story of the Knight Owein’s visit to the Purgatory in Lough Derg, and follows it with a second, ‘Item aliter de eodem Purgatorio’ (‘Furthermore, something different about the same Purgatory’).
