Pericopsis elata (afrormosia)

Pericopsis elata is a gregarious tree of limited distribution in the moist, semi-deciduous forest of West and Central Africa. It is a valuable species; the wood being recognised as an excellent substitute for Teak (Tectona grandis L.f.) for ship and boat building and other purposes requiring high strength properties, stability and durability combined with an attractive appearance. It is also in demand for use in high class joinery, furniture, flooring and,as a decorative veneer.
