Documentation:
The Polonsky Digital Preservation Project was a collaboration between Bodleian Libraries (Oxford) and Cambridge University Library (Cambridge) with funding from the Polonsky Foundation. One strand of the project was the development of an all-staff training programme aimed at embedding knowledge about digital preservation across both organisations. During 2018 Bodleian Libraries’ ran a pilot of the training programme, consisting of seven courses ranging from general introductory to specialist modules. The topics covered: 01 Introduction to Digital Preservation 02 Digitization: Planning, preservation and access 03 File formats: Characterization and validation 04 Personal digital archiving 05 Email preservation 06 Simple techniques for monitoring the health of your digital collections 07 Introduction to PREMIS Training material and instructions for how to use each of the modules have been released under a creative commons license to allow other organisations to reuse the materials. Each zip archive contains one training module. Included in the zip archive is a document about Course Delivery, which lists how to run the module and what further documents or materials are included within the zip archive. Where appropriate, further README files are included throughout the zip archive for providing documentation regarding how to use the demo or exercise materials. Most of the PowerPoint presentations are ready to use as is, but for sections that are not, there will be instructions for the trainer on the corresponding slide within the PowerPoint. Microsoft Word files (.docx) are available as PDF, all README files are plain text files and all presentations are PowerPoint (.pptx) files. Included is also a HTML version of the Bodleian Libraries’ Digital Preservation LibGuide. The zip archive includes a single HTML backup of the entire site and a folder that contains all of the files attached in the LibGuide.
