CT-phlebography using a 16-slice-spiral-CT. First clinical experiences in a child
- Abstract:
- Background: Cerebral venous thrombosis is mostly diagnosed using CT. Multislice CT technology has significantly improved the ability of CT to visualize blood vessels including cerebral veins and dural sinuses. Case Report: We report on the first clinical experiences with a state-of-the-art 16-slice-spiral-CT scanner for the examination of venous cerebral vessels. A 2-year-old child with a parapharyngeal abscess was examined to exclude cerebral venous thrombosis in addition to an examination of the neck without additional contrast injection. Due to its high spatial resolution and rapid acquisition, multislice CT phlebography may become the most efficient way to visualize dural sinuses and cortical veins.
