Internal model control of inhaled anaesthesia

Abstract:
This paper describes the design of a control system for the gas composition of the inhaled breath during anaesthesia. A model of the gas flow through the anaesthetic system has been developed which is used as a disturbance predictor in the control system. To cope with the considerable delays in the system, Internal Model Control is used and found to be effective. Two gases are controlled simultaneously with a time constant of 400ms, with strong disturbance rejection. © 2007 IEEE.
