TRANSFORMATION BEHAVIOR OF CALCIUM-PHOSPHATE .1. THEORY AND MODELING
- Abstract:
- A model has been derived to predict the in vitro precipitation behaviour of calcium phosphate from supersaturated aqueous solutions. This model, which makes use of the Avrami-Johnson-Mehl formulae, takes into consideration thermodynamic and kinetic factors and relates them to the preferential formation of precursor phases and their subsequent stage-wise transformation to hydroxyapatite. Predictions using the modified expressions have been found to be consistent with experimental data obtained over a wide range of conditions. In particular, the transformation reaction of calcium phosphate under physiological conditions is discussed. © 1993.
