Optimisation of metamaterials by Q factor

Abstract:
The Q factors of different elemental structures of metamaterials are investigated. Electromagnetic simulation and experiments have been used and the results from both studies exhibit good agreement. The origin and role of radiation losses is discussed and the effect on the resulting value of Q is highlighted. Some high-Q structures are identified which would be of interest for future use in the design of metamaterial devices. © IEE 2005.
