Value-creating systems

Abstract:
Strategizing cooperatively can be thought of as the purposeful configuring and reconfiguring of “value-creating systems” involving customers and other actors working synchronically to co-create value, thereby achieving outcomes they could not achieve alone or could only do so at greater cost and/or with more risk (Normann & Ramirez, 1993:66). The conceptual lineage of value-creating systems is service management where services and products are seen as intertwined, taking the form of ‘offerings’, and where customers are core to the value cocreation process. In this entry, the development of the concept is traced and three research questions for the future are outlined.
