Copper stainless steel conductor for high field pulsed magnets

Abstract:
We describe the renewed Oxford facility for producing Cu/ss high strength conductors for high field pulsed magnets. We also describe the characterisation of these materials including an innovative method for measuring the thermal characteristics of the wires. The possibility of conductors with ultimate tensile strengths of 1.5 GPa is discussed.
