Background
Typhoid and paratyphoid (enteric fever) are febrile bacterial illnesses common in many low‐ and middle‐income countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) currently recommends treatment with azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, or ceftriaxone due to widespread resistance to older, first‐line antimicrobials.
