Le marché des révélations divine dans le context de la crise politique en Côte d'Ivoire

Abstract:
Since the political crisis in Côte d'Ivoire, we have been witnessing the emergence of a true market of divine revelations involving both spiritual and material goods, where rules the law of the supply of grace and social demand, as well as tough competition between actors in control of spiritual practices. The revelations of prophet pastors are organized along hierarchical lines because they are turned more towards to the richest and most generous political segment. This market introduces competitive market dynamics between evangelical organizations, leading prophet pastors to behave like true ‘coach-pastors', ‘businessmen' or ‘people of private means', as if economic rationality conditioned their managerial strategies and tactics. But the market also raises the question of secularism or the separation of politics from religion in a secular country which has been undergoing social change and been in a crisis of social ties for decades.
