Framework of countermeasures (see: Anjuli Shere DPhil thesis, Chapter 8)
- Documentation:
- The framework is structured with recommended countermeasures at its centre. Each recommendation has noted disadvantages, and is matched to relevant threats that it addresses, followed by an assessment of the function of the countermeasure. Then, to assist with categorising the recommendations according to their relevance to different levels of the press, each protection is given a “beneficiary,” i.e. whether the countermeasure is intended to help an individual journalist and source, a news organisation as a business, or the news media existentially. To ensure that protections are suited to the practical needs of the press as a whole, they are also assigned to phase(s) of the editorial workflow to which this countermeasure is most relevant. They are further matched to categories of media roles that are most likely to be responsible for implementation. Finally, the framework includes a feasibility label to demonstrate ease of implementation of each countermeasure.
