Remodelling the Historical Morphology of the Classical Armenian -eal participle

The formation of the Classical Armenian past participle in -eal, whose derivation from PIE *-lo- has been recognised at least since MEILLET (1936), has traditionally been linked with the formation of the aorist. In synchronic terms, the participle of most verbs is formed on the basis of the aorist stem, so for example Arm. tesanem ‗to see‘, aor. tesi, ptcp. teseal; a number of denominative verbs, however, form their participles on the basis of the present stem, type gorcem '...
