Abstract:

This article examines the form, contents, and context of Fitzwilliam Museum MU.MS.108. This is a gathering together of a group of arias in autograph written by the Italian composer, Domenico Paradies (1707–1791), for London’s King’s Theatre, the elite venue for imported opera and dance. The manuscript, either as loose leaves or as a bound collection, was sold by Paradies to the founder of the museum, Richard, 7th Viscount Fitzwilliam (1745–1816) in 1770.
