Community-based monitoring of river health and biodiversity
- Abstract:
- This practical guide is designed for Indigenous Peoples and local communities who wish to monitor the health of their rivers and associated biodiversity. It combines traditional and local knowledge with accessible scientific methods, offering options for visual and sensory assessments, monitoring small river animals, simple water-quality tests, and fish health and abundance. The guide supports community-led monitoring and reporting on river condition, helping communities to identify change, potential hazards and conservation priorities, and to share evidence with leaders, authorities and other partners.
