AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: ATP-sensitive potassium (K(ATP)) channels are crucial for the regulation of insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and mutations in either the Kir6.2 or SUR1 subunit of this channel can cause congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI).
