Jupiter horizontal wind velocities at cloud level from Cassini

Documentation:
The dataset is documented in readme.pdf. The data file is in uncompressed netCDF format. Raw images were taken by the Cassini spacecraft, operated by NASA / JPL-Caltech / Cassini Imaging Team / Space Science Institute. Processed images produced by Ashwin R. Vasavada and Carolyn Porco, available from http://pds-atmospheres.nmsu.edu/Jupiter/CassiniMaps.txt. Velocity fields were computed using UVMAT/CIV (LEGI, Grenoble), available from http://servforge.legi.grenoble-inp.fr/projects/soft-uvmat, and described by Galperin et al. (2014), Icarus, 229, 295-320, doi:10.1016/j.icarus.2013.08.030. This dataset contains horizontal wind velocity vectors at the top of Jupiter’s main cloud deck, covering four rotation periods during December 2000. These wind measurements are based on a series of visible camera images taken by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft. They were analysed using a cloud tracking procedure based on a Correlation Imaging Velocimetry (CIV) method developed to analyse fluid dynamics experiments. The dataset contains 1123505 horizontal wind velocity vectors covering 360 degrees in longitude and +/-50 degrees in planetocentric latitude. The dataset also includes a Python script to convert the velocity vectors from spherical geometry to oblate spheroidal geometry, and to estimate observational uncertainties.
