An illuminated fifteenth-century Milanese manuscript of the 'Meditationes Vitae Christi'

Abstract:: Study of an overlooked fifteenth-century manuscript of the ‘Meditationes Vitae Christi’ demonstrates that its illustrations were adapted to the needs of its first owner, the Milanese innkeeper Cristoforo da Cassano. It is an example of the way in which the images accompanying this popular devotional text were reshaped to appeal to a new lay urban audience.
