Digital Maturity Consulting and Strategizing to Optimize Services: Overview

Abstract:
Digital transformation has become a strategic imperative for contemporary organizations, generating the need to systematically evaluate their level of digital maturity to guide this complex process. This study aims to identify and categorize existing digital transformation maturity models, evaluating their applicability in diverse international contexts. Through a systematic literature review following the PRISMA protocol, 62 studies published between 2020-2025 were analyzed, selected from six academic databases. The results reveal a significant evolution from purely technological models toward multidimensional frameworks that integrate organizational, cultural, strategic, and sustainability aspects. The effectiveness of these models was found to be conditioned by specific contextual factors such as organizational size, industrial sector, and geographical-cultural environment, evidencing differentiated patterns of applicability across regions, with a predominance of models developed in European and North American contexts that require significant adaptations for emerging economies. The study concludes that improving the global applicability of digital maturity models requires specific contextual adaptations, systematic incorporation of sustainability dimensions, and the development of methodologies that are simultaneously flexible and systematic, considering regional, sectoral, and organizational particularities.La transformación digital se ha convertido en un imperativo estratégico para las organizaciones contemporáneas, generando la necesidad de evaluar sistemáticamente su nivel de madurez digital para guiar este proceso complejo. Este estudio tiene como objetivo identificar y categorizar los modelos de madurez de transformación digital existentes, evaluando su aplicabilidad en diversos contextos internacionales. Mediante una revisión sistemática de la literatura siguiendo el protocolo PRISMA, se analizaron 62 estudios publicados entre 2020-2025 seleccionados de seis bases de datos académicas. Los resultados revelan una evolución significativa desde modelos puramente tecnológicos hacia marcos multidimensionales que integran aspectos organizacionales, culturales, estratégicos y de sostenibilidad. Se identificó que la efectividad de estos modelos está condicionada por factores contextuales específicos como tamaño organizacional, sector industrial y entorno geográfico-cultural, evidenciando patrones diferenciados de aplicabilidad según regiones, con predominancia de modelos desarrollados en contextos europeos y norteamericanos que requieren adaptaciones significativas para economías emergentes. El estudio concluye que para mejorar la aplicabilidad global de los modelos de madurez digital se requieren adaptaciones contextuales específicas, incorporación sistemática de dimensiones de sostenibilidad, y desarrollo de metodologías simultáneamente flexibles y sistemáticas que consideren particularidades regionales, sectoriales y organizacionales
